A Brief History

The name Chanhassen derives from the Dakota words meaning “sugar-maple tree”. Although settled in the 1850’s, Chanhassen experienced little growth until the 1960’s, due to their contribution to the farming industry. That same decade, Her Bloomberg built the Chanhassen Dinner Theater that is still profitable today. Today, Chanhassen is a multi-industry city, including printing, medical production, engineering, and more. The Population of Chanhassen is just under 30,000 and the city covers 24 square miles. Over the last decade, Chanhassen has received much accolade and awards, including, most recently, CNN Money Magazines’ 2013 list, 4th ranked “Best Cities to Live In: America’s Best Small Towns”.
